There’s a lot of talk these days about how successful people start their day really early. But if you get up early is it really the only way you can get more done?
I like to get up early myself but not because I think that it is the only way to get more stuff done. I think it can help you but as long as your sleep isn’t being neglected as a result.
I read a really good book once by Hal Elrod called The Miracle Morning and this gave me the push to try and stick to early mornings. It talks about morning routines and how beneficial they can be. Not everyone will resonate with a morning routine but I don’t believe the principles taught in the book only apply to the morning time.
Who said you can’t try them at night also?
Anyhow, let’s see if we can answer the question ‘Do you need to get up early to get more done?’.
The Myth of the Early Bird
There’s a popular belief that the early bird gets the worm, but is there any truth to this? According to some studies, the answer is yes – people who get up early are more likely to be successful.
However, there are also a number of drawbacks to being an early riser. For one thing, early mornings can be tough on your body, particularly if you’re not used to them. You may feel groggy and find it hard to focus. Additionally, getting up early can make it harder to get a good night’s sleep.
If you’re constantly waking up at the crack of dawn, you may start to feel exhausted during the day. So while there are some benefits to being an early bird, there are also some drawbacks. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide whether getting up early is worth it.
Why Some People Love to get Up Early
Some people are just naturally morning people.
They wake up early, feeling refreshed and ready to start the day. For them, getting up early is no problem at all. Others, however, find it much harder to get out of bed in the morning. They hit the snooze button, again and again, trying to get just a few more minutes of sleep. So why are some people morning people while others find it so difficult to get up early?
There are a number of theories that try to explain why some people are morning people and others aren’t. One theory suggests that it’s simply a matter of biology. Morning people have a different body clock than those who find it hard to get up in the morning. Another theory points to personality type.
Night Owls can be Productive Also
There are actually plenty of benefits to being a night owl. Night owls tend to be people who are more productive after sunset. This can be attributed to the fact that they are less likely to be interrupted by phone calls, texts, and emails during the evening hours. Unless they work with other night owls of course.
In addition, night owls often find that they have more energy and focus late at night. As a result, they can get more done in a shorter amount of time. Finally, night owls have the opportunity to enjoy a quieter world during the late hours. With most people asleep, there is less traffic, noise, and general activity.
This can provide a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. So if you’re wondering whether it’s worth it to stay up late, consider all of the benefits that come with being a night owl.
So, what’s the verdict?
Do you need to get up early in order to get more done? The answer is a resounding “no”. Both early birds and night owls can get a lot done, it just depends on their personal preferences and how they work best.
What matters most is that you find what works for you and stick to it. Experiment with different schedules and see which one makes you feel more energized and accomplished.
