Goals for 2020

Welcome to my goals for 2020 post.

I know January is coming to an end, but it’s been a busy month and I wanted to make sure I had my goals in line with what I want out of this upcoming year. I recently wrote an article on my goals for 2019 and plans for 2020.

I have never publicly shown my goals before and its something I was holding off doing. I had written out goals before but never really gave them much thought and just picked random ones that sounded good.

‘I will become a millionaire by the end of the year’…. Sound familiar?

Most peoples goals for 2020 probably sound something along this line.

I didn’t want this to happen with me so I wanted to get as specific as possible. My goals may change throughout the year, in fact I hope they do as it shows I am paying attention to them ans that I am working towards achieving them.

Setting SMART goals

Smart goals for 2020

Usually when talking about goal setting there is a famous acronym used called SMART;

  • S – Specific
  • M – Measurable
  • A – Attainable
  • R – Realistic
  • T – Time Bound

Following these guidelines when setting any goal will give you the best chance possible of achieving them. I used this article over at Mind Tools to help understand this process better.

Although not all of my goals are SMART goals I do try my best to make the majority of them like this.

Changing things up

I have divided my goals into four different sections; Business/Personal Brand, Personal, Fitness, and Mindset.

Under each section I have 4/5 specific goals with some tied to a specific end date, giving them a sense of urgency.

You can see there is a sub section under each section called ‘Method’. All this means is a ‘Method’ or ‘Habit’ I need to do to help me achieve my stated goals. I used this idea after watching this video on YouTube, were it talks about consciously creating good habits to get you to your goals.

I have never done this before but I really like the idea as it keeps things simple and if you ever feel lost on what to do, all you need to do is follow these instructions and you’ll be on your way!

Now for the hard part

Now that I have written my goals for 2020 out and made them public I need to do the most important part by taking action towards them and executing them.

I have my goals printed out on my wall so that I am reminded of them everyday. I recommend doing this as it is easy to make goals and just forget about them.

You need to remind yourself of them everyday so that you can keep focused on them, making them more likely to be achieved.

I hope this post has gave you some motivation to get up and create your own goals for 2020. Goal setting is something I am no expert in but by documenting my experience and sharing what I have learned along the way I will get much better over time.

Thanks for reading.
