1.8k likes on a Facebook post
Yes you read the title correctly. I managed to get 1.8k likes on a Facebook post. And I managed to do it spending less than £10.00. The post was boosted using Facebook ad’s and it was one of my first attempts at social media marketing. Look at the picture below. You can see the 1.8k likes and the number of people reached. The Progressive Lounge was a Facebook I used as a platform to test out various different Facebook ad’s.
How I did it
Below are screen shots of exactly whatI did to create 1.8k likes on a Facebook post.
Objective
Set the main objective to Post Engagement. This is the most common objective used for social media marketing, mainly because if done correctly you can get huge engagement with your posts!
Budget & Schedule
My aim for this post was to not spend much money and still achieve good results. So I chose to run it for 2 days with a total daily budget of £5.00. Depending on your budget you should adjust this. I would recommend £5.00 ( or $5.00) a day to start off with as this still achieves great results.
Locations
Place the ad in the biggest English speaking countries e.g. UK, USA and Canada. Some Marketers would also add Australia and possibly New Zealand but for this particular ad I didn’t think it was necessary.
Targeting
Apart from the ad itself this part of the ad set is probably the most important part to get right. This is where you narrow down your potential TARGET AUDIENCE. As you can see on the right hand side where it states ‘Audience definition’ my potential reach with this ad is at 34 million people.
Originally it would have been closer to 150 million before I narrowed my search down using interests such as passive income, affiliate marketing and entrepreneurship. Depending on your marketing strategy you may want to either narrow your audience down considerably, or keep it broad.
Simply add some search terms that is closely related to what your publishing. For example, if you posted a video on how to make vegan pancakes the you would probably want to target demographics such as, cooking, veganism, animals rights, healthy food etc.
Posting
Select ‘Use existing post’ and select a post from your Facebook Now the ad is ready to be published. Once you are confident your ad looks exactly how you want it then simply publish it. Now watch how your post gets thousands of likes over the next few days!
To be honest the engagement was a success but the ad overall is pretty awful. There was no emojis, no call to action and no real structure to the ad. This shows how effective this strategy can be even when the ad isn’t fully optimised.
