6 Everyday apps I use and you could use also

Mobile apps have become an essential part of our lives and its quite easy to get lost in the sheer amount of apps available.  Therefore I thought I would give you a list of 6 everyday apps that I find useful.

The list is quite varied and I use them basically everyday.  Some apps I use are for keeping me organised, others I use to just pass a bit of time

I have purposely not put social media apps, banking apps and other standard apps on the list for obvious reasons (we couldn’t function without them).

Now lets get stuck in and see what genius groundbreaking apps I use everyday.

Audible/Podcasts

Anyone who knows me well knows how much I pipe on about audio books and podcasts.  I haven’t properly listened to the radio in my car for years due to the fact I’m constantly listening to books and interviews.

For audio books I use the app Audible as its the highest rated one and has a wide selection of books.  I mainly listen to autobiographies, but you can get so much on it.  I done a blog post in the past on what my favourite books have been so far (click here).

Podcasts have grown in popularity over the last number of years but have actually been going on for longer then you might expect.  There are plenty of different apps you can use, including Spotify and iTunes.  I used Toms Guide blog post to help me decide which one was for me.

I chose Podcast Addict in the end and I haven’t had any issues with it whatsoever.

Trello

If you haven’t heard of Trello then its probably the reason you’re so unorganised.  The reason I have Trello as one of my everyday apps is because I use it to plan out content I have.

Organising my work in this format allows me to have a clear overall picture of what needs doing now and in the future.

Snapseed

Although I must admit I don’t use this app every single day, I do use it quite a bit, especially when I have a lot of content lined up.  Snapseed is a free photo editing app that gives unbelievable results.  All the pictures I take are edited using Snapseed.

Check out this tutorial on how to edit using Snapseed.

Habits

You may not have heard of this habit tracking app before but I have been using it for the past few years.  Its pretty self explanatory and doesn’t require any complex work to use it.

Habits works as follows.

You pick something you want to get into the habit of doing e.g. Exercising or reading, then the app will give you a gentle reminder everyday to ask you to log the habit.  Simple as that.

If I don’t remember to log my habits everyday I can see how well I have done over the past few months etc, giving me a good sense of the progress I have made.  I’d also recommend reading the book ‘The power of Habit‘.

Duolingo

Duolingo is a language learning app and I can honestly say I love using it.  If learning a language is something you have been interested in then you MUST try this app.

I have tried other apps and Duolingo tops them all.  I aim for at least 5-10 minutes a day which is nothing at all really, but over a period of time can add up.  I’m currently learning German and although I’m far from fluent, I have learned so many more words and phrases over the past few weeks.

I actually wrote a blog post about my ambitions to learn a new language.

Alarmy

Having trouble getting out of bed in the morning?  Snoozing the alarm every 5 minutes?  This is something I struggled with for a long time.

Alarmy is an alarm clock app, which has a few features which make it unique to a normal alarm.  You have to perform a task before your alarm can be turned off.  The idea is that it forces you to wake up properly instead of just hitting snooze, making you less likely to fall back asleep.

The tasks involve a few different things including; scanning a barcode or solving a series of math problems.  My personal favourite is having to take a picture of my kettle.  Usually by the time I get into the kitchen and take the picture I’m already half awake so I tend to not go back to bed.

  1. Loved this, found it very useful and have downloaded most apps already.

Looking forward to using them now.

    Thanks Conor
