How you can use self-education to improve your life

So you might have heard the term ‘self-education’ before.

Maybe you’re an avid self-educator already.

You might find yourself constantly reading and researching new topics and interests on a regular basis.

If you rarely find yourself doing this then I think this might be the article to change your life completely.

Okay maybe not completely but I have no doubt it will be of use to you.

I myself was similar not too long ago.  I would rarely do anything learning based outside of school and work (except learn how to get a no scope head shot on Call of Duty).

The concept of self-education was foreign to me to be honest.

It wasn’t until I left home for university that this subject of self-education really started to resonate with me.

I came across a video on YouTube by a guy called Tai Lopez.  In the video he was showing off his new Lamborghini and his book shelf.

Yes, his book shelf.

He attributed all his wealth to the knowledge he gained from all his books.

He said ‘The more you learn, the more you earn’.

For some strange reason that video really got me thinking about self-education and how it could benefit my life.

Here’s a guy who dropped out of university but yet, was living in a mansion in LA driving a sports car.

I had to find out more about this.

Mindset Shift

The problem when it comes to self-education is that society is already set out in a way that makes this unappealing to most people.

All your work and learning are done from the hours of 9am to 5pm (on average). So anytime out of these hours is usually set aside for relaxing or putting the feet up.

By all means you can do exactly that, I know I certainly love doing it.  But look at the amount of time you have spare after you are done school/work.

You’re probably talking an average of 5-6 hours. Then your weekends are even more!

Why not set an hour aside each night to learn something new?

1 hour a day = 365 hours in a year!

That’s a huge amount of hours stacked up, all by just setting aside one hour a day.

Maybe you work in an office but you have a real passion for photography.  Get up an hour earlier and get some morning pictures before that commute to work.

Or how about you buy that photography course and watch an hour of it everyday.

Set yourself a goal for the end of the week to have completed an hour a day of learning something new.  See what difference you feel.

Maybe you won’t feel that much different but you won’t be any worse off.

Resources to help

Now I’ve convinced you with my words of wisdom, and you’re ready for your education in self-education.

There are loads of resources available at your fingertips.  Probably even more so due to the Pandemic.

Although, you can’t go wrong with a good solid book.  I’ve bought many over the years and when they aren’t on the shelf collecting dust, they can teach me a thing or two.

If you prefer more of an online classroom set up then you have a lot of options.

Below I’ve listed a few to get you started.
